Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

My Uncle, Jonathan Powell, sadly passed away from Motor Neurone Disease (MND) in December 2010. In memory and in recognition of the support given to Jonathan and his wife Maggie, I would like to raise money and awareness for the charity by running a 10K race with Liane.

For those of you not familiar with MND, it is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that attacks the upper and lower motor neurones.  Degeneration of the motor neurones leads to weakness and wasting of muscles, causing increasing loss of mobility in the limbs, and difficulties with speech, swallowing and breathing.

5 people die every day as a result of MND.

Jonathan attended my wedding in April 2009 feeling unwell but still healthy, he didn't make it to our 2nd anniversary. This is the degree of speed that MND can take hold of any adult at any time. He was an amazing and brave man who is extremely missed.

For 95% of cases there is no known cure or effective treatment. Any money raised will go towards funding research into treatments and providing support for those people and their loved ones who are affected by MND.

My company plans to match any amount raised, so please dig deep!
