I am really excited to have this opportunity to raise money for this amazing charity. We first came into contact with the CLDF shortly after out daughter Katie was born 4 years ago. She was very poorly and spent the first few weeks of her life in an incubator baffling the Drs as to what was wrong with her. She was then transferred to Birmngham Childrens Hospital where she was initally diagnosed with a rare, life threatening liver disease which required immediate surgery. We were terrified, lost and felt powerless to be able to help our tiny daughter. It was at this point that the CLDF first introduced themselves. They offered us information, advise, a shoulder to cry on, contact with other families and sometimes just a place to escape to for a cup of tea when being in the hospital became too much. They always seemed to be available no matter the time of day or night, and were incredibly knowledgeable about the disease providing us with literature and research to help us to begin to get our heads around this very complex disease. The help and support they offer is invaluable to so many families as we witnessed first hand.
In our case Katie was quickly diagnosed with a rare but non life threatening disease and with medication she started to recover. However, the impact that the CLDF had on our family in those few short weeks was immense and we will be forever grateful to them.
