Story

Hey guys! As many of you know, I am doing the BoxinBusiness White Collar boxing on November 5th 🔥🎆🥊. I'd like to start off with firstly thanking my employer Axal Leine Recruitment for sponsoring me as without them, I wouldn't be able to partake.

I have attended the boxing fitness classes for a few years now and I absolutely love it. There is no better feeling than finishing a boxing fitness class. You feel on top of the world. For the last few years I have decided to challenge myself in various physical ways. This year, I told myself I’d like to do a Marathon or a White Collar. Thank god I got the opportunity to do the latter (way more fun)! We will save the marathon for next year. I love pushing myself physically and mentally to my limits and thought this would be a great way of doing so, whilst raising money for a charity close to my heart. It’s going to be a hell of a ride, with blood, sweat and tears but an amazing experience never the less.

As mentioned, Silkworth Charity Group are a charity close to my heart. They are a local charity who support individuals with drug and alcohol addictions and their families who are affected by the addiction. They provide people with support without judgement. Silkworth educates people, helping us all to understand addiction and realise that it is in fact, a mental illness. An addict is often a good person who has just lost their path in life or turned to substance abuse as a way out because they thought that was their only option. They have an illness and although they sometimes would like to break the addiction, they physically can't because all of the signals the brain gives off, making them crave the substance. Silkworth helps them do this in a safe and supportive environment. They help addicts and their families regain their lives back.

I want to break the stigma around addiction and raise awareness of an ever-growing problem in our island. I could guarantee that at least every one of us knows someone or has someone in their life battling substance addiction. There is a great deal of shame and embarrassment around these issues which I think is wrong. Addiction has a domino effect on the people surrounding the illness. Silkworth provides a holistic healing approach to all those effected. They provide a platform for families to talk other families and share their stories which is unbelievably powerful and slowly, the shame, embarrassment and feeling that they are the only ones going through this, falls away.

Thank you for visiting my page and taking the time to read my story. Your support means a lot and is massively appreciated🥲.
