Story
Thank you for visiting my page. I'm raising money for the British Heart Foundation a charity that is very close to me and my family. Both of my Mum's brothers, Sean and Andrew, sadly passed away when they were young due to heart conditions. I never got to meet Sean, however, I got to grow up knowing Andrew and will always feel so lucky to have had that time with him in my life.
Sean was born with a heart disorder called Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM) and like many people who have this condition, was unaware of this and suffered a fatal heart attack aged 22. About 15 years later, my Uncle Andrew, was suffering chest pains and was referred to see a cardiologist and whilst he didn't have HCM, it was found he had a bicuspid heart and from then on had regular check ups. He then had to have an operation on his heart which was successful but he passed away 6 months later aged 34 from endocarditis (an infection of the inner heart lining).
The BHF helped Sean, Andrew and many others with the research they have done and continue to do. The research done into HCM means that the condition is now treatable and funds raised for the BHF also help to support hospitals like the British Heart Institute Hospital in Bristol, which is where Andrew was treated.
I would love to be able to help continue to support this charity and all the amazing work that they do to help save lives, which is why I am running the London Marathon in April 2024. I only started running properly in April 2023 and this will definitely be a huge challenge for me. I still can't believe quite how far I'm going to have to run this year, however, all your support to help me raise money for this charity will definitely help me get there.
The BHF has helped halve the number of people dying from heart and circulatory disease in the UK but sadly every day hundreds of people lose their lives. It's only thanks to support from people like us that the BHF can create new treatments and discover new cures. £24 could pay for two hours of research by an early career scientist, but every pound helps so please give what you can to help me hit my target.
Thank you so so much,
Lucie xxx
