Story
I know people say it a lot but I need to correct everyone. My Mom is THE best! I feel this is proven by the number of my friends who also call her Mom and also visit her even when I am out of the country. Mom was diagnosed officially with MS not long after I was born a mere 30 years ago and thus is my inspiration and thought behind supporting the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Multiple Sclerosis(MS) is a disease that affects the nervous system and progressively gets worse over time. To try and explain best, imagine a nerve is a fiber optic and the light traveling through it is the message from your brain. If you chip the optic part of the light is refracted out and less of the light reaches the end. As time goes on more chips appear, to an eventual outcome that no light reaches the end. In other words, messages sent from your brain don't reach their destination i.e. your hands, feet etc. This leads to you not being able to use your body correctly. For example, go to pick up a piece of paper and the receptors in your fingers will send a message to the brain once it feels it. With MS the messages in the nervous system can tell you, 'you are feeling the paper in between your fingers.' In actual fact, you haven't even touched it.
Mom was advised not to have anymore children as this could cause the MS to progress faster. So needless to say, Mom had 2 more ha. But as we were growing Mom fought the disease tooth and nail. Her amazing will power kept her out of her wheelchair long past the point others would have conceded. When asked about why, Mom simply answers that it was for her children. For that I want to raise money for a cause that could potentially help my mother and others to live a better life.
Last winter I was challenged to snowboard 100 days within the season. I managed 109. 1 of these days included me covering a distance of 101 miles. This winter I have set myself the task to go up everyday of the season. We are now moving into the 2nd half of the season and I haven't faltered yet so I figure this is the point to start raising money.
That being said, any amount that you can spare will be greatly appreciated and to be clear, no amount is too small.
Thank you for reading through all this and even more so if you make a donation.
Much love
Luke
