Story
Last year Luba lost her father to COVID, which awoke us to the suffering of elderly people around the world who are subjected to extraordinary institutional, cultural and even familial ageism. In the last month we have been researching the population affected in the biggest contemporary humanitarian crisis affecting over 40m Ukrainians.
Our research shone a light on the plight of millions of invisible elderly people (predominantly women) in Ukraine who have been forgotten or abandoned and who are often trapped, unable to evacuate. They require urgent support from the strained state health and social system; from international institutions and NGOs, yet the existing resource scarcity and structural ageism across institutions and the media let them down. Age International is one of the very few NGOs which dedicates efforts to helping this vulnerable group of people, so we chose to fundraise for their Ukrainian Humanitarian appeal. Please consider donating to support them too. Any amount you are able to give is an act of generosity which will help someone in real need.
Thank you so much,
Luba and Richard
