Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I have watched many members of my family train in the wet and cold in order to trudge, jog or run the London marathon, and as I turn 40 I want to do my bit for such an amazing charity and to show my kids, that their mummy can do it too!
Having a husband on the rugby field (yes, I know he's too bloody old), who rides motorbikes, as someone who skies (badly) and cycles, I know how important all these activities are to me and my family. How much joy, confidence and comraderie these bring. But I also know that these sports can also result in the devastation of spinal cord injury.
Every 8 hours someone will be told they they are paralysed and won't be able to walk again. Imagine not being able to get in your own front door because of the steps, or up stairs to your bedroom - life changes in an instant.
That's when Back Up starts to make a real difference to how people perceive their new circumstances, and provide the vital support needed to take on new challenges and continue to live life to the full. All Back Up's services are provided by people who have experienced SCI themselves and can show people that life isn't over.
That's why I'm running for Back Up.
Every £26 donated will part fund a wheelchair skills trainer who teaches people who are newly injured how to confidently and safely use their wheelchair and get out and about to do the things they want to do. Together, Back Up wheelchair skills trainers reach over 500 people a year.
