Story
A story about family
17 years ago, I met my husband, Giles.
46 years ago, his parents had reached the conclusion that if they were to have children they would have to adopt. Pam and Mike White arranged the adoption through a Barnardo’s (then known as a “Dr Barnardo’s”) orphanage in Kent, UK.
They drove 100 miles to collect their (first) 4 month old baby boy. No rigorous checks, no ante-natal classes, no training; just a letter to say your baby is ready for collection. A cloth nappy and bottle of cow’s milk were all they were given as they left the orphanage with their new baby son.
2-and-a-bit years later, they adopted a brother for Giles, Rob.
This week, Giles’ Mum, Pam, turned 80. What a milestone! And what a gutsy, courageous, warm, kind and caring 80 year old you are, Pam.
On the 19 May, I will run 45km of the Great Ocean Road marathon to say thank you to Pam. Thank you for bringing up such a wonderful son, my best friend, husband and amazing father of two.
Please donate and give another child the opportunity they deserve, to be loved, feel safe, be happy & find a mother and father like Pam & Mike White.
Thank you.
