Story
I have just about recovered from doing the Marsden March... top tip: don't try this without some training! Back problems curtailed my training, so I felt every step of the 14 miles between the two Royal Marsden Hospital sites. A few achey joints, a couple of blisters (one per heel) and a sunburned nose seem a small price to pay for the sense of achievement, and helping the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity to support the Royal Marsden Hospital's important work.
Fortunately, 27th March turned out to be a wonderfully sunny spring day, which helped keep me motivated, along with the fantastic Bobbie keeping me going. The goodwill of the stewards and fellow walkers also helped keep a spring in the step. Many thanks to Bobbie who provided the two photographs I've added to this page. If you know Bobbie, who is another dear friend of Jo who we walked in support of, take a look at her page too - just go to the home page and type in "Bobbie Koen".
To remind you why I decided to do this walk in the first place: My dearest and oldest friend Jo recently had what was undoubtedly lifesaving surgery which only the Royal Marsden could perform, so it's a thank you for still having my friend around.
In the past, my dear aunt also received treatment there.
I'm also walking in memory of loved ones who weren't lucky enough to be treated at the Royal Marsden when cancer made an appearance in their lives.
I'm still trying to raise as much money as possible - this page will stay open until 24th June 2011 for any additional sponsorship.
