Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am running for the The Lily Foundation. The Lily Foundation is a relatively new and small charity that was set up in memory of Lily Anna Merrit, Lily died from Mitochondrial Disease at eight months old. The charity's mission is to fund research into and raise awareness about Mitochondrial Disease. The charity also offers vital support to many families coping with this rare disease and to those families who have lost a child to it. Mitochondrial Disease is a difficult disease to diagnose and each case is very different. There is currently no cure or treatment for it.
My reason for choosing to support The Lily Foundation came about after spending time with my sister Jacqui in November. One of Jacqui's closest friend's daughter, Rachel has mitochondrial disease. Rachel has had problems from a very early age and was diagnosed with the disease when she was 14. Rachel is now 17 and is living and coping with the disease very bravely. Jacqui and I talked about things we could do to help, to fundraise, to show support, so a few runs later I contacted The Lily Foundation to ask about marathons and was thrilled (and daunted!!) to be offered one of their places! After reading their website and having a long chat with Liz (Lily's mum) I really felt that this was the right time and the right reason to be doing one.
Our fundraising target is £3000, we would very much like to ask for your sponsorship to help us reach it. You can donate here ,my justgiving!
