Story
Well the day dawned cold and windy with sleet showers. My nerves stayed fairly well under control, until I was called to first climb a fire escape staircase, and then a vertical ladder onto some scaffolding right on top of the roof - this is where the terror struck. I was convinced, at this point, that I would have to withdraw as I peered over the edge. But with the memory of my dear father, and the incredible generosity of all you wonderful people, I took that first step. I cannot claim to have enjoyed any part of the descent, but I did it!! Thank you so very much to everyone who has contributed, and to those who might still want to donate. Your money is going to a very worthy cause, in memory of my wonderful and courageous father. I did it Dad!!
On Sunday 24th March 2013 I will be undertaking a 100ft abseil in an effort to raise funds for our local Hospice of St. Francis - a cause very close to my heart as they were so supportive to my whole family during my father’s fight with the cancer which eventually took him from us two years ago.
There are some who would say a 100ft abseil is a piece of cake, but for me I will have to summon all my courage as anything higher than the first two rungs on a ladder leaves me frozen with fear. Why not run a marathon, swim through a bog, or cycle the length and breadth of the country? some might say. Unfortunately I shall never be able to undertake any of the those, so when I read about the abseil challenge I decided it was time to grab my fear by the scruff of the neck and do my bit for a very worthy cause. My target is to raise £500, but with your generosity maybe I can set my sights even higher. These are a few examples of what your money could go towards:
£25 could pay for a whole day’s supply of oxygen for a patient with breathing difficulties.£50 could pay for a counselling session for a child experiencing the loss of a loved one.
£150 could keep our Specialist Home Care Nurses on the road for 3 weeks.
£500 could pay for an entire morning shift of nursing on our In Patient Unit.
£1,000 could pay for a syringe driver used to administer medicine to patients.
With 2012’s awful weather many fund raising events were cancelled, and as a consequence urgently needed funds were lost. With your valuable support, and the memory of my courageous father, I intend to make the 24th March 2013 one of the best day’s of my life.
