I am currently a student at Warwick University studying Philosophy. I have been selected to take part in ‘Warwick in Africa’, a project which aims to transform the teaching of Mathematics and English in a number of schools in South Africa, Tanzania and Ghana. The scheme is having a transformational effect on the attendance, performance, aspiration and motivation of pupils and teachers in African secondary schools. More than 90,000 learners so far have received a boost in how they are taught and over 580 teachers have benefitted from discovering new teaching skills and methodologies.  

 

On the 21st of July I will be travelling to Dar es Salaam in Tanzania where I will work alongside other student teachers providing teaching support for two schools in Morogoro, as well as organising and running after school clubs for English, Maths and a variety of sports clubs. All the schools involved in Warwick in Africa have very few resources; with classrooms often having insufficient furniture to seat the students of up to 75 in each class. The teachers for this year are already funded, yet we now need your support to fund next year’s teachers to sustain the programme providing support for the schools year on year.

Every year the programme is growing yet in order to deliver the same level of growth next year we need your support! On the 9 of September I will be walking the equivalent of a marathon with my Dad, from my house to and around Southport then back home, in order to raise money for the programme.
