About Meningitis

• Meningitis and septicaemia kill around 1,000 people around the world every day.

• Babies and children under five and young people are especially vulnerable but anyone of any age can be affected.

• Globally, up to 5% of all deaths of children aged under five are caused by meningitis and septicaemia

• A third of survivors have long term disabilities, like amputation, brain damage and deafness.

• £18.9m (€24.5m/$30m) invested over in 156 research projects since 1989

• £1m spent on awareness and personal support to those affected every year
