Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page!
From 9 – 18 November 2012, I will be taking part in the second Women V Cancer Challenge to ride 350km across rural India in support of three UK cancer charities. The adventure is aimed at women of all ages and cycling abilities who want to challenge themselves personally whilst doing something positive in the fight against breast, ovarian and cervical cancers.
My group will complete the challenge over five days, starting in Agra, home of the iconic Taj Mahal, and finishing in Jaipur, stopping overnight at campsites along the way. The route followed will be far removed from the usual tourist trails and will be both on and off road. Conditions will be challenging; the roads are mere dirt tracks in many places and the temperatures at that time of year will be around 36 degrees in the daytime and plummeting at night. In addition to a high level of fitness, participants will also need therefore to build stamina and endurance.
As a novice cyclist, I am aware I have a tough training regime ahead of me however I know it will be an amazing learning curve and a life changing experience. As well as the physical challenge, I must also raise a minimum of £2,800 in support of the work of the three charities: Breast Cancer Care, Jo’ Cervical Cancer Trust and Ovarian Cancer Action. I hope to achieve this through a number of fundraising events and through the generosity of people and companies. The organisers of the challenge, Action for Charity, will cover my tour costs, however it is my intention to make a personal contribution of £500.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
