Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I postponed my marathon run from 2023 to April 2024 on medical grounds. I am now back running and aim to support this amazing charity ARUK#. My running journey began in 2018 when I started running (or shuffling!!) to get fitter and more active. In the same year my Dad was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s/Dementia. Although there were signals, prior to diagnosis, he was not 100%, for example, he could not remember names, places and fairly common events. It was a shock to him, his family and loved ones to have a diagnosis.
Sadly, in March 2024 my Dad passed away. Although he would not have managed to get up to London on marathon day he always asked me how my running was going. Often I had to explain what I was doing and why I was doing it but he always took an interest. For those who knew my Dad will recognise he was always positive. Always half glass full. Always looking for the good in all. Always ready to engage.
The Covid period was confusing for him with routines disrupted and regular changes as well as feeling isolated. He frequently found it hard to thread occasions together but stuck to his daily habits and managed to “look on the bright side of life” and find the positives whilst realising the threads do not always sync. In short, he was remarkable.
This is just one way of saying thank you. You remain a true inspiration. 😊😊.
Any donations however much will be greatly appreciated or just a thumbs up of encouragement to keep me going through the months and on the day.
I can’t wait to raise funds for Alzheimer’s Research UK. However, there is no cure for Alzheimers and Dementia. There are, however, currently a variety of treatments available to help people with Alzheimer's and Dementia manage their symptoms, from medications that increase the chemicals in the brain that transmit messages to counselling and alternative therapies that assist patients in accepting their condition and all that it entails.
There is an urgent need to discover a treatment for this debilitating and life-limiting illness.

In the meantime, I best get training for the big day on Sunday 21st April 2024!!
