Story
What & why? 🤷🏻♂️
Nothing could have prepared our family for the unexpected news that we received last weekend. Following an appointment at her local hospital in Harlow (after few weeks of feeling mildly unwell but without improvement), my sister was rushed to Addenbrookes in Cambridge, with a dangerously high white blood cell count. Just 24 hours later she was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia.
This isn’t a sob story but it’s a way for me to feel like I’m doing something to support her in this difficult journey, especially due to the fact that lockdown has meant she’s having to go through this alone currently. Away from her husband and away from her 2 children.
She is strong & WILL fight this 💪. I know so many have had personal experiences with Cancer so let’s make this a positive challenge we can all do to push money to great causes that work to find new treatments. I feel as her little bro it’s the least I can do after she looked out for me growing up.
Simple Aim
- to raise a £k for Katy (well more specifically for Leukaemia Research
How?
- My Challenge- in support of her first month of Chemo treatment, I am going to do 5km each day (run/cycle or row), I dislike CV unless a football is involved & only did my first ever 5k a month ago! (That’s 150km / 3.5+ marathons in total)
- In addition, for the inevitable hair loss, I will join her in shaving my head (can’t be any worse than lockdown hair!)
Support
I would love people to...
- Join me for an average of 1k (walk/run/cycle etc) per day, starting Monday 11th May-June 11th (you can start any day in this window and aim for 30k within 30 days) 🏃🏼♀️🚲🚣♀️🏃♂️🚶♂️
- and/or simply donate via the JustGiving link (anything helps & is gratefully received)
- ( Head shaving optional! 💇♂️ )
Thanks for the support for my amazing sister and family (& for an incredible cause). Hope everyone is safe & well.
