We have each known and cared about the people of Palestine for a number of years and four years ago we went there with Amos Trust.  Through Amos we were introduced to a number of projects, local people and communities. It was a life-changing experience for us and we have stayed involved with this small, passionate and effective charity ever since.

We learnt first hand that in this beautiful country Palestinians have been living in or on the edge of war for....years. Israel and Palestine are unhappy places in many respects but what struck us most was the effect of restrictions, internal conflict and. segregation on the Palestinian people. The unemployment levels are very high and those fortunate enough to have work often can't get to it because they are regularly stopped by soldiers who behave indiscriminately towards them at the separation wall or checkpoints.

In spite of all this, the Palestinians are generous, hospitable and creative people. We met many of them and their welcome to us was heartfelt. We enjoyed the culture and the food is fantastic.

One hospitality experience remains in our memories above all others; the drinks and cookies which the family gave all our group as a thank you to Amos Trust who had rebuilt their house which had been demolished some months before. This is a regular occurrence; soldiers come, usually in the middle of the night with an hour or so's warning and destroy a home.

And so we wanted to go back. To go back with a group from Amos Trust to spend 10 days or so rebuilding one such  demolished house. It might sound hair-brained but it has been done several times - and now it's our turn. Please support us and in doing so, join in solidarity with these wonderful people.
