The Lost World Project is a fundraising competition organised by Ibex Earth that aims to provide ten young adults* with what can truly be described as the adventure of a lifetime. The competition seeks to send ten young adults from across the UK to join an internationally acclaimed crew of professional documentary-makers to travel to Mount Roraima, Venezuela and help shoot footage to feature in a fifty minute, broadcast-quality documentary. During the fourteen-day expedition, the team will explore the ‘Lost World’ plateau and film the unique wildlife and haunting scenery that have remained unchanged for millions of years. The overall winner of The Lost World Project, will then remain with the crew for an additional three weeks to undertake final filming sequences to complete the documentary. Working alongside top professionals (including BBC Planet Earth cameramen), the ten winners of the competition will undergo intensive training on filming techniques that will help them become an integral part of the documentary and record a video blog that will inform others about their experiences. The Lost World Project will then be premiered in London in December 2010, and across the UK from January 2011. The overall purpose of The Lost World Project and the documentary is threefold:- To raise awareness of the fragility and conservation needs of Mount Roraima and the Guiana Highlands of Venezuela;
- To engage and train young adults in producing environmental documentaries that promote the conservation of our changing world; and
- To act as a major fundraising mechanism for Ibex Earth’s Environmental & Conservation Partners during 2010
