On the 6th of October 2006 at precisely 10.20am my consultant Mr Steven Thrush took hold of my hand and said
'You have Breast Cancer'.

I was thirty eight years of age with two young son's Robert and Andrew. My world came to an abrupt stop.

The next year of my life was taken over with major operations, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Today, five years later I go to hospital every twelve months and am still taking tablets to keep my cancer at bay, but, I am very much alive and loving it.

On the 20th-27th of October this year I will be taking part in a sponsored walk. Approximately 127km across the Sahara Desert over the course of five days for a wonderful charity that helped me put my life back on track.

This charities name is Odyssey. Odyssey is a unique organisation which enhances the quality of life for people with cancer through programmes of adventure based mainly in the outdoors, using the stimulation of surprise and uncertainty, Odyssey takes participants on a five day journey aimed at combating the psychological and emotional devastation caused by their illness; helping people rebuild their confidence and regain their zest for life.

My Odyssey experience took place in March 2008.

Although the cloud of cancer will now, for ever, be a part of my life,it is now in perspective. I liken it to being a little man asleep on my shoulder, I am under no illusion that one day he may decide to wake again but until then I will endeavour to live my life to it's fullest.

 I am funding my own costs for the trip, which means, 100% of every penny I raise will go directly to Odyssey, enabling them to continue their fabulous work with other people who's lives have been devastated with that tragic word 'Cancer'.
