Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My name is Lorraine Weir and my friends Emma Clarke, Nicola Guitart, Heidi Schwick, Jo Travers-Brown and Immelda Pigg and I are holding a Zumbathon at One Leisure, St Ives from 10:30 to 4.00 on 20th May to raise money to support people with Multiple Sclerosis, tickets are only £10 for a full day of Zumba.
Multiple Sclerosis is a debilitating disease that affects around 100,000 people in the UK. People with MS can experience problems with vision, balance, muscle spasms, muscle stiffness, and fatigue. I understand these symptoms because I experience them when my MS relapses.
We’re raising funds to support the MS Society to help them fund research into finding a cure for this debilitating disease. The MS Society has invested £133 million since 1956 and is spending another £1.7 million on research in 2012. They also provide MS sufferers’ with emotional, practical and financial support as well as providing advice and guidance to medical professionals on the treatment of MS.
My father had MS and I was diagnosed with MS in 1997 when I was a 29 year old Mum of two young boys. For me this was a freighting time. In order to relieve some to the symptoms and increase my strength I took up swimming here at One Leisure St. Ives. After that took up a gym membership. The staff at the centre were extremely helpful and their expertise helped me to develop my fitness levels. In order to undertake many challenges, such as the London marathon. Fitness changed my life dramatically and helped to reduce my symptoms. I don’t see exercise as a chore; I see it as a necessity to help maintain my well being. I’ve also met many inspirational people at the gym who have overcome many hurdles to achieve their own personal challenges. This inspired me to pursue a career in fitness to help others to achieve their own personal goals.
