Motor Neurone Disease (MND) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that attacks the upper and lower motor neurones. Degeneration of the motor neurones leads to weakness and wasting of muscles, causing increasing loss of mobility in the limbs, and difficulties with speech, swallowing and breathing.
In 2010 my brother in law Nigel was diagnosed with MND. It is difficult to imagine how to cope when someone you love suffers such rapid loss of mobility and speech but Nigel’s family have been so strong they are an inspiration to us all. Running 26.2 miles seems easy in comparison!
MND is rare and debilitating but seeing the way Nigel, Julia, Caitlin and Alex cope is more than enough to motivate me to run another marathon and reach my fundraising target of £3,000.
The Motor Neurone Disease Association offers a life-line to families, providing accurate and practical day-to-day support to enable people with MND to live with their diagnosis and achieve the best quality of life possible.
They campaign for the best possible care and continue to fund and promote groundbreaking research around the world to identify treatments and find the cure for the disease. Your donation will contribute to their valuable work.
