Story
In August 2022, I took on Mount Kilimanjaro, the world’s highest single free standing mountain in Tanzania, towering 5,895 metres above sea level with temperatures as low as -20 degrees…. There was excitement and nerves as I pushed myself to new limits - physically, mentally and emotionally. To appreciate this world we live in, and be grateful for what I have, and who I am, I shall be raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
My beautiful mother was diagnosed with cancer in 2017 – I’m not going to lie - it shook our world. Her symptoms were initially very difficult to control so it was a rather frightening and uncertain time but she thankfully received all the necessary treatments and chemotherapy and eventually came through. In all her challenges she has shown strength, courage, determination, and the ability to always keep the faith. I am extremely proud of her.
I do not have the right words to express my gratitude as to how Macmillan Cancer Support helped my mum and my family get through her cancer journey at the time, and they still do to this day, but I did know back then that I wanted to give back to them in some shape or form. This feat couldn’t be more befitting in the hope that the funds raised assist greatly in making a breakthrough to finding a cure and that no one has to hear those words and face that cancer journey.
So many of us have been personally affected at some point of our lives by this disease taking hold of a beloved family member(s), in fact as I write this, only last weekend, we lost our Bhuaji (Dad’s sister), 2.5 weeks after she was diagnosed with this awful disease – so again the impact of cancer has hit hard and only heightened my purpose even more.
Macmillan is an incredible organisation that supports people with cancer and helps them live life as fully as they can. Sometimes these charities can all seem a bit abstract and not real life, but just know, the work these people do is incredible and really does matter.
I am self-funding this trip so all monies raised go directly to Macmillan. No donation is too small, and I am deeply grateful for each and every penny you give. If you’re unable to donate, I’ll be super happy with your kind words of support and best wishes on my journey!
Thank you so much for supporting me.
Bring on the challenge!
Much love, Lorna xx
Ps. I’ve actually developed a love of goblet squats, step-ups & down hill lunges… only took me 46 years to find out! ;)
