We offer expert care, guidance and support to people living with a terminal illness
Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On the 7th November 2010 I will take part in the New York City marathon in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care.
Why am I doing this? Well – that’s a question you have the pleasure of asking yourself a number of times when your training reaches in excess of 20 miles, in fact, you’d be surprised just how often you manage to ask yourself during that 4th hour of running!
There are so many worthy charities but I have chosen Marie Curie because cancer is a disease that has touched so many people around me and although my run on the 7th will be a tough one, it doesn’t even scratch the surface of the challenge that someone with a terminal disease faces. Research commissioned by Marie Curie shows that 65 per cent of people would choose to die at home. The harsh reality is that only 25 per cent achieve this.
At 10pm every night over 2700 Marie Curie nurses, doctors and healthcare professionals enter homes across the UK, offering someone dying of a terminal illness the support they need to face their final days in the comfort and familiarity of their own home, free of charge. They support the families who must also come to terms with the inevitable loss. The charity is the largest provider of hospice beds outside of the NHS and it funds both research into the ways of improving palliative care and scientists at the forefront of cancer research – looking at both the causes and cures for this devastating disease.
So, now I need your help. If you are about to donate, thank you so much; if you are doing it to support me, I can’t thank you enough but if you are wondering why I asked you, please consider donating for this incredibly worthy cause.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
So please dig deep and donate now.
Thank you so much.
