Story
Bring along your sandwiches and join me and other Barclays families as I give a virtual guided tour of the highlights of one of the greatest museums in the world.
It will be a fascinating lunch hour!
(This is part of my citizenship efforts to raise funds for the Aegis Trust and any donation will have matched funds from Barclays.)
I'm an ex British Museum guide with a storyteller style so it's also ideal for children aged 10 to 16 as as long as they are accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Featured in this virtual tour ...
- the Rosetta stone, how it was discovered and deciphered
- the Egyptian gallery and the bust of Rameses II, and the circus man who excavated it
- the Parthenon sculptures (the 'Elgin Marbles'') and the controversy
- unwrapping Egyptian mummies (you might want to have your sandwiches after this bit)
- Mayan sculpture and blood-letting
- the Great Court, a modern marvel of engineering
- the Benin brass plaques
- Aztec ornaments worn by a king
- the Assyrian gallery and warfare
- cuneiform writing and how it was deciphered
- the great Roman silver find, the Mildenhall treasure, and the remarkable story of how it was discovered in a field in West Row, Suffolk
