Bike ride to Kiev · 9 August 2010

We help people with learning disabilities to lead fulfilled lives

Story

On Friday 05th September 2010 I (Guy Peters) rode into Kiev, capital of Ukraine, after cycling 1881km from Frankfurt, Germany. The journey took a total of 25 days from start to finish. Along the way I was accompanied in succession by Laurence Thomson, John Peters and Henry Lamb.

Personally speaking this was one of my most arduous and outrageous adventures to date. Throughout the ride my team and I experienced our fair share of trials and tribulations including countless punctures, 2 broken front wheels, 2 broken pannier racks, 2 police escorts and some seriously crazy weather. However, despite all these getting run over by a car probably takes first place.

Whilst on my way to Krakow, Poland, I was hit from the side by a passing car going at around 70km/h. Luckily I was OK, receiving only a small gash above my right eye. My bike, however, was not so OK. Nevertheless, a quick visit to the hospital and bike shop meant person and bike were fixed and we were able to continue our journey the next day.

Despite the personal goals of both myself and the team the paramount aim of this trip was to raise money for the Emily Jordan Foundation so that they can continue their work of helping individuals with moderate learning and physical disabilities lead valued and fulfilled lives. My team and I hope that this ambitious and demanding journey will increase awareness of both the outstanding work the Foundation is doing and their far reaching plans for the future. For more information about the charity, including its story and specific aims, one can visit:

I realise that this is a tough time economically, but any money you could spare would be gladly received and greatly appreciated by the Jordan family.
