Story
Douglas Cairns and Karl Beetson, pilots with type 1 diabetes, set a new world aviation speed record, (subject to ratification) from London to Malta, on 15th July! In two tiny home built aircraft, the stopwatch was formally started at 6:19 a.m. over Denham Aerodrome, and 12 hours and 48 minutes later we arrived, just as the sun was setting at Air Traffic Control, Luqa Airport, Malta.
We are delighted to raise the funds you see so far here on Just Giving, and very much hope to raise a total of £1,000 for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation - JDRF. Funds raised will help support research aiming to improve treatment and ultimately to find a cure for Type 1 Diabetes.
If you would like to make a donation, we will be delighted!! Thank you!!
It was a truly terrific day - we had a huge high pressure weather system offering sunny conditions over most of the route, which passed across the English Channel, over the western French Alps, Corsica, Sardinia and Sicily, A huge thanks to Eva Ceh for starting the stopwatch at Denham, to Malta Air Traffic Control for stopping the watch, and to D.C. Aviation at Malta Airport for sponsoring our handling charges and for such efficiency and excellent communication.
