LODI SKYDIVE IN SUPPORT OF THE MACMILLAN CANCER SUPPORT
On Saturday the 6th of September some of Lodi UK team( Roger, Liz, Hayley, Ross & Tony) have decided to JUMP out of a plane at 13000ft to help support a very good cause.
2013 was a very tough year for the whole team at Lodi UK, as two members of staff (Liz & Hayley) were diagnosed with two different forms of cancer. Both Liz & Hayley felt like their whole world had been turned upside down due to this disease but with the help and support from Macmillan Nurses at New Cross Hospital they came through all their treatment.
Macmillan Cancer Support helps so many people throughout the UK every day - from people who are going through cancer or even in remission. Lodi UK believe this is a very good cause as Macmillan helped and supported Liz & Hayley.
Both Liz and Hayley have written a short story on how being diagnosed with cancer has affected their lives:
(Hayley's story)
“One May afternoon I started to feel really unwell with a headache, sick and just not right, then suddenly a lump started to form on my neck by the end of the day to the size of a large egg.
After numerous trips to the Doctors I was finally referred to the hospital where I received numerous tests. Then in July I was finally diagnosed with B cell high grade Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. My treatment plan was not nice 6 rounds of Chemotherapy and 4 weeks of Radiotherapy. After the 2nd round of chemo my hair started to fall out which you can image for a women this is not nice! So I made the decision to shave my hair off – this made my son laugh as I stood at the top of the stairs and did like a muscle man action. I was so happy to finish chemo but then I had 4 weeks of radio. I started the 1st week fine and thought it was a walk in the park – OMG I was wrong by the 2nd week the side effects stated to kick in. I had NEVER in my life felt so ill – bad throat, sick, tired just blah. The worst though - was that it was going to happen every day for 4 weeks. I was SO happy to finish my final session that I skipped down the corridor. It was a few days before Christmas so my family had so much to celebrate.
I returned back to work in the New Year and it was so nice to try and get back to normal. I have had 2 follow up appointments already this year and my consultant is happy that the cancer has been treated, but I will always have it in the back of my mind.
I would like to add that my 6 year old son has been a super star through my whole treatment; I am in a great believer in keeping nothing from him.
(Liz's
story)
I couldn't believe it when the Breast Cancer Nurse told me that I had cancer – I honestly thought that the tiny lump I’d felt for a couple of months was nothing to worry about and thought she must be talking about someone else. But no – it was happening to me! I was diagnosed in September 2013 and the following week I had the lump and some lymph nodes removed. I was fortunate to be selected for a trial for Radiotherapy treatment which meant that rather than 3 weeks and 1 week boost, I was able to have one week of intensive treatment with 1 week boost. Christmas and New Year was spent travelling to New Cross Hospital and the relief I felt on 3rd January 2014, my last day of treatment, was immense.
With daily medication for the next 5 years (the side-effects of which I'm still getting used to) and regular hospital checks, I'm feeling positive.
My message: If in doubt, check it out!”
We would like to thank you all - customers, friends and suppliers for all your support in helping Lodi UK raise as much money as they can for Macmillan Cancer Support.
