Story
I’m running my first ever half-marathon at the Great Eastern Run on 8th October and I am fundraising for the Diabetes Research and Wellness Foundation (https://www.drwf.org.uk/)
Those of you who know me well and have seen me eating cake may think that my choice of charity is simply planning for my own future wellbeing! But actually my dad was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes 20 years ago and I have seen his health deteriorate rapidly in the last few years as a result of this condition. I have also been surprised by the lack of clear dietary advice and information. Diabetes is an epidemic – there are currently 3.8m people in the UK with it and it is growing fast.
So I’ve chosen a ‘hands-on’ Diabetes charity in the UK that specialises in research into cures as well as raising awareness.
This is the first time I have raised money for charity, so I have no idea what to expect. I hope my friends and colleagues will support me in this worthy cause.
A half-marathon is a good challenge for me. I am determined to run all the way, but so far I’ve never run further than 7 miles and even that gives me blisters (too many pedicures = soft feet!!)
Thank you so much for visiting my page and reading my story.
