Epilepsy Action is creating a world without limits for everyone affected by epilepsy, connecting people with others, and providing support and information you can trust. We’re calling out the misunderstanding, prejudice and barriers that stop people with epilepsy living their best life.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

My Dad and I are running the Great North Run in September in order to raise money for a charity that only recently has become a big part of our lives.

Last year my 16 year old sister was diagnosed with epilepsy. Epilepsy is a neurological disorder that affects the brain and causes frequent seizures. Sophie’s life changed from going out with friends and doing things that teenagers do to spending most her time having brain scans or in ambulances and being scared to leave the house on her own in case she had a seizure in public. There are many different types of epilepsy and seizures and since her diagnosis it has become apparent how little awareness there is about the condition. A full tonic-clinic seizure is scary to watch and at times Sophie has had more than one a day and some have lasted over five minutes and she has required oxygen.

I would love to raise a large amount of money for this charity that aims to raise awareness about epilepsy so people can learn how to recognise if someone is having an epileptic seizure and what to do if they are.  This would give me and my family comfort knowing that if Sophie was out alone in public and was to have a seizure that someone would be able to help her in the right way.

Thank you in advance to anyone who donates and know you will have a special place in my heart. Whilst I most certainly need to do waaay more training before September I know I will be able to complete it in order to support the charity and by keeping in mind all of those who live with the condition.
