Hello and thanks for taking the time to visit my Just Giving page
On 2nd October 2022 I am running the London Marathon to fundraise for JDRF, short for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, which is more of a mouthful and after running 26.2 miles I'm not sure if I will be even able to say it!
There are lots of amazing and worthwhile charities to fundraise for, but I'm running for JDRF as my son Joe was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes aged 11 years old. Having Type 1 means your pancreas has stopped producing insulin, so you need to inject man made insulin in order to stay alive. Following the initial diagnosis and during the first difficult months of navigating life with Type 1 diabetes, as well as the fantastic Type 1 Team at RMCH (Royal Manchester Children's Hospital), JDRF were a great support and source of information and continue to be so. It's unclear why the UK has the fifth highest rate of Type 1 Diabetes in children, but JDRF are committed to eradicating type 1 diabetes;

It's now been ten years since Joe was diagnosed with Type 1 and I am so proud of him for getting on with his life whilst living with Type 1 diabetes. However, life has its ups and downs and Joe has been really struggling with his mental health in the last six months, but I'm hopeful he is now reaching a turning point.
Running keeps me fit and helps keeps me positive. I have been running since 2012 and the impetus to start was Joe being diagnosed with Type 1. I had been intending to run the London Marathon when I turned 50, but since everything has been up in the air over the last couple of years, I will be 52 when running this years London Marathon! All being well, I continue to stick to my training plan and on the day just keep running to the finish line...
I know now is a tough time for people financially, but if you can spare the price of a takeaway drink to sponsor me in my marathon endeavour fundraising for JDRF, that would be really so appreciated.
Many thanks for your support Lisa Wx
