Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
As some of you may know I have an eye disorder called Retinitis Pigmentosa. I have limited peripheral vision and very little vision at night. There is no treatment or cure and many people with RP will eventually lose their sight.
I am taking on an exciting personal challenge by joining a team of sighted and visually impaired people to embark on this 100km trek across the Sahara, walking for up to 8 hours a day for 4 days. I was inspired to take part in this event after hearing about all the amazing work RPFB has funded and speaking with others RP supporters who had been on similar events.
The money raised will be used for funding of research into treatments for this incurable eye disease including gene therapy, stem cell studies and retinal implants. RPFB also offers invaluable support and help to people living with sight loss.
I was diagnosed with RP at the age of 16 so I have adapted life and it's everyday challenges. I like to support this amazing charity whenever I can by organising fundraising events and I often get involved in research programmes.
This exciting trek presents me with some interesting challenges including personal training, fundraising ideas and of course actually doing the trek itself!
I will keep you updated with my progress and the experiences I have along the way.
Once again, thank you for your support and donations. Lisa x
