Snowdon Midnight Challenge 2016 · 13 May 2016 to 14 May 2016 ·
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am completely terrified (especially as it gets nearer) at what I am going to be doing in memory of my Granddad, having never done anything like this before and also not being a fan of heights or being in such circumstances in the dark!!!
I'd like to tell you a little about why I am doing this challenge. Growing up, two very special people to me were my Gran and Granddad, and not long after the loss of my Gran, my Granddad was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. Over the course of 10 years, me and my family watched this cruel disease take away this lovely person whom we all loved and cared for dearly. He was quite simply one of a kind and I miss him every day.
I have seen first hand what this disease does, the distress it causes the patients, their carers and family members and also shockingly the lack of facilities and support systems that are available to all involved.
My aim in doing this is to contribute to fundraising and hopefully raise awareness in the hope that one day we might see some real changes to the quality of care of patients, better treatments and general facilities or even a cure for this horrible disease.
Aside from the large amounts of money needed, any funds would be well received, and if I could raise just £500, this would pay for one Alzheimer's patient and their carer to attend a music class which has been designed specifically for Alzheimer patients, once a week for a whole year. This might not seem like a lot or necessarily ground breaking, but if I can make a difference to just one patient's life then I think it is worth it because I know it would've made all the difference to my Granddad's quality of life, even for just a short time.
Alzheimer's disease is just one of the areas where help is needed within a range of many different mental illnesses that almost all of us will face at one time or another as a sufferer or watching someone we love and care for fighting the same battle so please dig deep and donate now and let's make a real difference!!!
