Story
The Big C offer a variety of services to those who are affected by cancer - someone who has been diagnosed, friends and family of those who have been diagnosed and to those who have lost someone.
I asked Big C for help in December 2021 and they offered me bereavement counselling. I had my first call within a week, and I had a total of 10 sessions. They have helped me learn to live with the grief of loosing my dad to this cruel disease. I don’t have any siblings, and I don’t know anyone my age who has lost a parent (fortunately) so I felt lost. The Big C gave me a safe space to speak openly about how I was feeling, my fears, worries and frustrations, and how to support my mum.
My dad and I started going for bike rides Nov/Dec 2020. We wouldn’t cycle far and it would be leisurely. We’d often talk about life, plans we have and other random things. We continued this through lockdown 3.0 so we could spend time together. I’ve decided to challenge myself to the Norwich 100 to raise money for the Big C as a thank you for the support and help they have given me, and that they continue to do for others. I’ve chosen the bike ride event to continue what my dad and I started in 2020.
Thank you for reading my story and for your donation.
