Hi, when we had our 20 week scan for Daniel they picked up that he had a cleft lip, when he was born we found that our beautiful little boy had a cleft palette as well. Cleft is not purely superficial, it affects feeding and can also affect speech, hearing and dental development. Since the day of the scan the Cleft Lip and Palette unit at Newcastle RVI have been nothing but fantastic. They have a brilliant team of professionals who have given support and advice throughout, and continue to do so until Daniel is 25!

Daniel will have his lip repaired in August at 10 weeks old and he will need a further operation when he is 1 year to repair his palette, he will then be monitored closely regarding speech, hearing and dental development. Without the support of the unit and our Cleft nurse Sharon the thought of these operations would have been much more worrying and traumatic.

As a family we would thank the unit by raising money for them to put back into developing research and continuing support for other families.
