Story
Thank you for visiting this page; your support is much appreciated!
This year I was lucky enough to get a ballot place for the marathon, so didn't need to fundraise to be able to run all 26 miles - but I am really keen to use the opportunity to try and raise money for a charity close to me - Parkinson's UK.
I chose the charity because my granddad died of Parkinson's disease and my uncle was diagnosed with it over 30 years ago. I have seen the huge effect it has on not only the sufferer and their way of life, but also their families and the charity does some amazing work.
Parkinson's disease is a cruel progressive neurological condition affecting movements, such as walking, talking and writing. There are 120,000 people with Parkinson's in the UK and around 10,000 are diagnosed with the condition each year. One in 20 of those people is under the age of 40! There is currently no cure. Parkinson’s UK supports sufferers and their families in every conceivable way and funds research and educational initiatives. It does incredible work but is completely dependent on voluntary donations.
This may well be my last marathon - I was never born to be a runner, I have just developed a bit of a competitive streak (with myself!) and would like to do it in under 5 hours.
If you would like to support me and this amazing charity it would be so appreciated! All donations will help, no matter the value ... so please sponsor me with however much you can spare. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it's the most efficient way to donate - we raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
Also, please feel free to come down on the day and cheer me along, it is a massive pick me up seeing friendly faces and might help me to run a bit faster!
Thank you so much!
