Story

On 30th August 2021 we took Dad for a drive along the coast from Llantwit Major to Rest Bay, finishing with Mum & Dad enjoying fish & chips overlooking the sea. This was the last trip out for Dad and just 20 days later on 19th September we said goodbye when Dad lost his 12 year battle with cancer.

Diagnosed in July 2009 with a grade 4 brain tumour Dad was told he had 6-12 months to live. As you can imagine our lives fell apart but in true Big Al style he was not prepared to give up without a fight and to prove them wrong. Courageously he fought and battled through 4 operations & 4 rounds of chemo and radiotherapy.

This walk of hope will see us waking that exact journey we drove on 30th August. On Sunday 15th September 2024 we will walk along the coastal path starting at Llantwit Major and finishing at Rest Bay in Porthcawl for some snacks and beers. It’s a total of approx 20 miles, so no mean feat. Please please donate so a cure can be found for this awful incurable disease.

Wherever you are and however this devastating disease has touched your life, we are calling you to take part by organising (or joining) a Walk of Hope in your area.Walk by a river or alongside a canal, round a park or even up a mountain!Choose your own route, do it on your own or walk with family and friends, or get together with everyone in your community or at work and organise a bigger event.Wherever you walk, join thousands around the country creating a sea of pink in our fabulous t-shirts.Together we will find a cure.

Brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer. Just 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this disease. We are a leading voice calling for support and action for research into what is called the last battleground against cancer.
