Following the Manchester Arena bombing on May 22, 2017, the worker bee became a symbol of unity and defiance in the wake of the attack. It has come to represent Manchester’s indomitable spirit.I made this original print, featuring 22 bees, in memory of those who suffered and are still suffering from the tragic fatalities and repercussions. From Manchester myself, this event will remain etched in my mind. I chose this charity as it allows people suffering from any personal issues to seek help. Such events cause trauma, PTSD, anxiety, depression and general feelings of helplessness. It is comforting to know that there are people to help.
I will be donating 50% of all profits of this bee print to Self Help at the end of June. I have just released more colours. The donation as it stands has been from the previous sales and I'd like to thank those who have purchased one.
Another reason I chose this charity was because of someone very close to me who has been in and out of mental illness bouts. I am proud to see how far this person has come, it is not an easy battle and it never will be. They had help from some amazing people and amongst them, volunteers who helped to put this person on the road to recovery. I am very grateful for such support available and with this donation, I hope to contribute to help others.
When I created this piece, it was the end of May, which also marked Mental Health Awareness Week - a fitting charity choice.
