LinkedIn London are moving 10,000 miles for MENCAP to raise funds to help people with learning disabilities to thrive and live their best life!
We’re running, walking, cycling - you name it - to raise awareness and much needed funds for this outstanding charity.
Mencap’s mission is to transform society’s attitudes to learning disability and improve the quality of life of people with a learning disability and their families.
My 7 year old son, Thomas, is profoundly autistic with learning difficulties, and life can be really tough for him, and for so many families like ours. Thomas was diagnosed aged 3, and needs significant additional support with his speech, learning and development. He is a happy, gorgeous little boy and it can be heartbreaking to see him struggle. He is likely to need help throughout his life, so charities like Watford MENCAP are crucial for him - and thousands of other people living with learning disabilities and their families. The advice, help and funding they provide to local autism networks is game changing for some, not to mention their work in changing perceptions and building understanding so people like my brilliant, beautiful boy can thrive!
We are aiming to raise £20,000, with £2,000 coming from external donations like yours.
Thank you! Your support means so much, and here’s what funds mean to Watford MENCAP:
£35 could…
Enable a child with a learning disability to attend one After School Activities session at our fully accessible centre in Watford. Sessions run for 3 hours and give children an opportunity to play and learn new skills in an inclusive environment whilst also providing vital respite for parents and carers. A parent recently said “Thank you for all your hard work and dedication to help make life for families like ours a little easier.”
£75 could…
Enable an adult with a learning disability to attend a 10 week ICT course. Courses focus on empowering people to develop keyboard skills, take part in social networking, access on-line services to book appointments and do shopping, all of which help to reduce isolation an enable people to be more independent.
£100 could…
Pay for a teenager to attend sessions at our weekly Hand in Hand Youth Club for a whole month. Hand in Hand is the only local youth club that caters for the needs of teenagers with learning disabilities. For many of the teenagers it offers the only opportunity they have for social inclusion outside of school and guarantees their parents 3 hours respite a week.
£750 could...
Pay for a healthy 3 course meal including fresh fruit and vegetables for every child with learning disabilities attending After School Activities for a whole term – that is 780 meals!
All donations are much-appreciated and will be used to support local people with a learning disability and their families. Thank you!
