Story
Two years ago I was living a happy and healthy life. I was watching my beautiful children grow up, had a loving husband, was enjoying my career as a top ranked solicitor until one day in May 2016 I found a lump. It’s something you dread as a woman and hope it will never happen to you. Words can’t express the shock, fear, worry and lack of control I felt on the day of my diagnosis. Life I had previously taken for granted suddenly became very precious and fragile.
I was lucky. I was quickly referred to the Nightingale Unit at Wythenshawe Hospital where I received first class support and treatment from such a great team that meant that my cancer was gone after surgery. Two years on and I am still free of the disease but the fear of return remains.
In times of trouble , your true friends are there to support you. Rhiannon was one of them. A school friend of old, she was there to listen to my worries, make me laugh and support me through treatment and now she has agreed to take time out of her busy legal diary to come with me as we trek to Everest Base Camp to raise money for Prevent Breast Cancer.
As you can read below, the charity Prevent Breast Cancer researches the disease and is working towards a future where what happened to me and thousands of others no longer does. This is my way of saying thank you and giving back something to those outstanding individuals who helped me and will help others in the future. It’s also a way of creating new bright memories out of some dark moments in my life.
We are self-funding this trip. All money raised will go directly to Prevent Breast Cancer. Please donate what you can so that we can at least reach our target to help achieve the goal that one day, no woman or man will experience the day I did 2 years ago.
Thank you for your support.
Prevent Breast Cancer:
“Predict. Prevent. Protect. You could call it our mantra. As the only UK charity entirely dedicated to the prediction and prevention of breast cancer, we’re committed to freeing the world from the disease altogether. Unlike many cancer charities, we’re focused on preventing, rather than curing. Promoting early diagnosis, screening and lifestyle changes, we believe we can stop the problem before it starts. And being situated at the only breast cancer prevention centre in the UK, we’re right at the front-line in the fight against the disease.”
