Story

In 2018 with the help of all my friends and family I raised over £5,000 for Hospice (IOM) in a 10 week period leading up to Thriller in the Villa.  This is no where near the challenge of that year, but I have really wanted to do something more to build on the total.

It got me thinking about my 40th year and how lucky I am to have all my friends and family.  I haven't had experience of the Hospice first hand, however my first visit was for the wedding of one of my husbands’ oldest friends Stefan to the beautiful Anne-Marie.  It was the loveliest of days marred with sadness and less than a week later Anne-Marie passed away in the place she had wed.  She was the same age as me and so wanted the same things out of life.  I think about her often.

Then in 2013 my very best friend lost her dear mum Judith Carr, a beautiful lady whose qualities I see in Emma everyday.  "Ma Carr" spent time in Hospice and they were truly wonderful with her care and the support that they gave to Emma and her family.  One of the hardest things I have experienced was to see Emma's pain during that period and the time since, however I believe she wouldn't be the strong person she is today if that care hadn't been there.

I learnt more about Hospice in my time leading up to Thriller and can't believe the amount of self-funding they need to keep going.  It costs over £5 million to provide the services they do every year, with absolutely no cost to the patient, their families or carers.  Just £600k comes from DHSC and yet it's such an essential facility for our Island.

I could go on.

In summary I want to raise more money for a wonderful cause and so in September last year I set about giving myself challenges with a view to doing something every month until my 40th:

September - 10k virtual run, October - Strictly 10k virtual run and 5k cancer run, November - Syd Quirk half marathon, December - Christmas virtual 10k run, January - New Year Dip & race to Oz 47.5 miles over the month, February - Leap year 10k virtual run, March - Internation Women's Day 10k virtual run, April - 3 Peaks Challenge (also raising money for The Children's Centre), May - Liverpool Rock 'n' Roll half marathon, June - Parish Walk, July - Cyclefest, August - TBC.

If you could give anything, however small, it will all be so appreciated.  Money sent through this page goes directly to Hospice (IOM).
