Story
Personal note: I have set this page up because, as an unpaid volunteer doctor at Kiwoko Hospital, I know how vital ALL our staff are to the functioning of the hospital. Thanks for taking the time to visit this JustGiving page.
STAFF ARE VITAL!
Kiwoko Hospital can only continue to provide excellent healthcare because of their many dedicated staff. These staff are the hospital's key resource, and Kiwoko Hospital could not function without them! This not only includes many different healthcare professional (nurses, midwives, doctors, lab workers, counsellors, physiotherapists, pharmacy workers) but also extends to the many staff working in other areas of the hospital, including administration, finance, drivers, groundsmen, security men.. and the list goes on. Each member provides different skills and is essential to the ongoing running of the hospital.
THE SCALE OF THE NEED
But Kiwoko Hospital has a MASSIVE challenge. Unsurprisingly, the annual budget for human resource (395 staff salaries) is huge - in fact, the 2022/2023 budget for salaries alone is UGX 3,877,414,684 (Approx. £881,000 / US$1,020,000). 249 staff are paid from the hospital General Fund, a fund that Friends of Kiwoko Hospital (FOKH) has been supporting for many years. In fact, due to many generous supporters, FOKH were able to donate £19,000 each month to the General Fund to support salaries in 2021/2022—a total of £228,000 during that financial year!
STAFF WAGE APPEAL
AND YET FOKH need more finances to ensure that there are enough funds for ALL Kiwoko Hospital staff paid from the General Fund! Giving Tuesday on 29th November 2022 is the launch of a new FOKH appeal to support staff wage...
Can you help?
THANK YOU!!!

KIWOKO HOSPITAL
Kiwoko Hospital has for over 30 years provided essential healthcare to patients in rural central Uganda. With over 70,000 patient encounters per year (inpatient, outpatient and community work), it is a very busy hospital, with the particular aim of reaching the poor and vulnerable in Nakaseke, Luwero and Nakasogola districts (though patients will travel from further).
FRIENDS OF KIWOKO HOSPITAL (FOKH)
FOKH have been supporting Kiwoko Hospital for 30 years and more. It was determined from the early years that finances should primarily go to support staff salaries. By so doing patient fees have over the years been maintained at an affordable level. This is vital when Kiwoko Hospital serves a population the majority of whom are subsistence farmers.
