We offer expert care, guidance and support to people living with a terminal illness

Story

My wife Linda Chamley died of cancer on the 17th December 2019.

Her last 12 days were spent in the Marie Curie Hospice and whilst there she was given the very best of care. During this time the family and myself also received fantastic help and support from all the staff and it made us realise what an important charity Marie Curie is.

After Linda passed away the family and I decided that we wanted to recognise and help support the amazing care that Marie Curie provide so we have signed up for the Great North Run on the 13th September.

It is a measure of the love people had for Linda that a large number of friends have decided to join us in participating in the run. Many of these friends are not runners and taking part in the Great North Run is a huge undertaking for them.

On the 13th September, eighteen of us were due to stand on the start line of the Great North Run to celebrate Linda’s life and in support of Marie Curie. It was also to be the 30th anniversary of Linda’s one and only Great North Run which she completed with shin splints.

Sadly, due to Coronavirus the Great North Run will not take place this year and charities that are already struggling will not receive the financial support the Great North Run usually brings.

Consequently, we have devised a back up challenge based on the 13 miles of the Great North Run. So, for 13 weeks running up to the 13th September we have all committed to running 10 miles per week. A minimum of 130 miles per person. We have even drawn in some extra people to join us. This challenge begins on the 14th June and I plan to regularly update this page with details of how people are doing.

I know we are living during difficult times at the moment but we would really appreciate any sponsorship you would be prepared to contribute.

The 18 runners are:-

Ellen Bartlett, Alex Bilton (*), Amber Black Dominique, Ben Chamley, Chris Chamley, Peter Chamley, Natalie Collins, Liam Czerwinski, Jean Paul Goule, Monique Goule, George Longmore, Adam May, Lauren May, Melanie May, Rachel May, Robert May, John Reid, Sam Schofield (*)

(*) These runners have set up their own sponsorship page

The four hardy souls taking on the 130 mile challenge with us are:-

Gill Goule, Paul Goule, Heather Reid, Jenn Reid
