Story
Up until the age of 14 months Lucas was enjoying life and developing like any other child his age.
That was until the 8th July 2013 when he stopped breathing due to a three hour long epileptic seizure and had to be ventilated. He spent three days in the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit and a further two days under the watchful eye of staff at Royal Stoke University Hospital.
It was then at this stage of Lucas' life we started to realise exactly how difficult things could get. Currently, Lucas can not communicate or walk independently and needs constant care and supervision. Lucas also spends a lot of his time in and out of hospitals attending medical appointments such as Physiotherapy, Speech therapy, Hydrotherapy (just to name a few) due to the effects of his Epilepsy and life is very hectic for him at the moment.
Imagine for a moment your child not being able to talk to you, to tell you when they are hungry, thirsty, tired or in pain, and so you have to guess what is wrong. People take things like communication for granted, but with Lucas we accept that this could potentially be the norm for the rest of his life. We appreciate every noise that he makes, every smile melts our heart and every laugh makes us proud.
However, in the past seven months that Lucas has been attending the Peter Pan Nursery for Children with Special Needs, we have seen not only our precious little boy develop his skills and grow with happiness but have also seen the significant benefit that Peter Pan provides to 50 other children's lives with special needs and other life-limiting conditions.
Peter Pan have been exactly what this Just Giving page is all about...
