Story
We did it! And it hardly rained at all - only when Andy started singing, and then everyone went inside for a bit. Well, they said it was the rain. Isobel and her friend Ana shared the old tent, and I bagged the nice new tent - which turned out to be unsuitable for a hard surface, so I landed up really sleeping in the open. Still, it stayed dry and remarkably mild, so we were pretty lucky.
A HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who has sponsored us - we've been overwhelmed by everyone's generosity. There are so many claims on everyone's purse, and so many very good causes - but you can be assured that this money will make a real difference to the lives of people in need in our area. The Wimbledon Guild gives small cash grants and donated goods to people in urgent need in the borough of Merton. They're often people setting up new homes after coming out of difficult relationships or out of institutions, but it can be anyone who falls through the social security net. The Guild also runs low-cost clubs and classes for older people, including a day centre and lunch club; it houses advice services like the CAB and the Forces help organisation, SSAFA; and it runs a counselling service, free to under-18s and 'pay-what-you-can' for adults. It's not dramatic, but it is highly valued by the people who use the services, and it's funded almost entirely through local donations.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - we raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
