Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In loving memory of Liam, we are asking for donations to Cardiomyopathy UK, the heart muscle charity.
Liam was diagnosed with Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM) in May 2015 - a disease of your heart muscle whereby it becomes stretched and thin and unable to pump blood around your body efficiently.
Since the diagnosis he was introduced to Cardiomyopathy UK - a specialist charity providing information, advice and support to anyone affected by cardiomyopathy. The charity works purely with donations to raise awareness, improve diagnosis and management of the condition and they promote medical research. They were a really valuable contact for Liam, and he not only gained a lot of important insight from them, but also benefited from their networking pages and conferences where he met and talked to other people with DCM.
Cardiomyopathy is a relatively newly discovered condition and there is limited infomation out there, so to have this charity on hand to answer questions, especially in the beginning after first receiving the diagnosis, made a huge impact. The charity taught him a great deal about how to manage the condition around his lifestyle, what tests and treatment were available to him, and what research was currently being done. He even had access to a 24-7 direct telephone line to a Cardiomyopathy nurse if he ever wanted to ask more urgent questions or receive immediate support.
We would be very grateful if you could join us in continuing to support this fantastic charity in loving memory of Liam. He refused to give in to his condition and the encouragement he received from this charity played a big part in that.
Thank you. With love from Stephen, Sandra, Sean, Kieran and Fee x
