Story

On the 13th August 2022, myself and a number of other individuals are going to embark on a 38.8 mile 'walk for Dan the Man' from Salford to Blackpool Tower, which should take around 13-14 hours. This unbelievable effort is to raise awareness and money for Derian house children's hospice, which is a hospice that is not only a place that is held very closely to my heart but is a hospice which is held very closely to the hearts of many families across the North West of England. Derian House provide respite and end of life care to over 400 children with terminal illnesses 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It was Derian House that cared for my brother Daniel when he was diagnosed with terminal cancer at the age of 6 until he sadly left us at the age of 12. I do not think many people can imagine what it must feel like to lose a son or brother at that age, but the tireless work that the legends at Derian House put in daily 24/7 make it a much more peaceful and supportive place to be when going through the most difficult stage of most peoples lives.

Now let's talk about the walk, at 6am on the 13th August myself (Lewis Kenny), Jimmy Kenny, Deb Kenny, Molly Kenny, Little 'Liam' Kenny, Mark Brannagan, Kane Brannagan, Josh Henry, Christian Platt, Jonny Griffiths, Dean Chadwick, Ash Chadwick and Liam Kearney will all be leaving my house in Salford to walk 38.8 miles to Blackpool Tower. This will be a truly unreal effort from everybody involved and your donations will help us through to that finish line at Blackpool tower and help us to all remain motivated throughout the course of this mammoth walk. Not everyone involved in this walk knew or had a relationship with Dan my brother, however they are still completing this journey in order to raise money for this fantastic hospice and keep my brothers name flying high and for that i can not thank everyone involved enough. The walk will take us through Westhoughton, Horwich, Chorley, Leyland, Preston, Ashton on Ribble, Kirkham and then finally Blackpool. Anyone who wishes to support this effort and be there at the finish line to clap everyone involved on this remarkable achievement is welcome to be at Blackpool tower from 6:30pm in the evening.

Your money can make a massive difference to Derian House, now i'm not asking anyone break the bank or donate anything they can not afford just spare whatever you can wether it is for the hospice or the individuals completing the walk, or maybe your just donating in memory of Dan. But for those who do donate even the smallest of sums please know you are making a massive difference in keeping Derian House alive, in addition to keeping the memory of my brother alive. Families across the North West of England need Derian House and it costs Derian House approx. £5 million per year to run there services with only 12% of that coming from statutory services, meaning the remaining 88% comes from fundraising events and the public and without people donating or running events many young people battling terminal illnesses would die without any true memories and their lives may be cut shorter without the aid and support of the fantastic facilities and individuals at Derian House.
