Story
1 in 123 people in the UK live with Crohn’s Disease or Ulcerative Colitis; these are the main forms of Inflammatory Bowel Disease.
My sister was diagnosed with Crohn’s last year. It has significantly impacted her day to day life, from diagnosis to ongoing treatment at hospital, including biologic infusions every eight weeks, which help treat inflammation and maintain remission, but weaken her immune system. Despite this, you wouldn’t know my sister has Cronh’s!
Patients often don’t respond well to treatment or build antibodies over time, meaning up to 8 in 10 people with Crohn’s will need to have surgery at some point in their lives.
Experts do not know what causes this invisible illness and there is no cure, which is why funding for research is vital.
I will be running the Frome Half Mararhon on 17th July and then the London Marathon on 2nd October.
Any donations and/or words of advice and encouragement are greatly appreciated!
