Story
I first did the Race for Life in 2007 after the death of my Auntie Margaret to cancer, a year later I lost my Dad to Bowel Cancer. I continued to do the race every year mostly with my mum and it was a special reflective time for us both. Sometimes though I did it the Race for Life twice in the year!
In 2018 whilst working at Durrington High School we had over 300 people in our team and the Race for Life now was very different for me. As this was the year I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer myself. I was one of the people, others were raising money for.
The following year I joined the team again when even more people from the school took the challenge on again; however, my story had changed too as I now had Secondary Breast cancer. The cancer had spread to my bones which meant it was now life limiting and incurable.
31 women a day die of breast cancer in the UK, that one women every 45 minutes.
We are all affected by cancer
1 in 2 of us will get cancer in our life times
Together we can beat it.
I have had great support from some pretty amazing women some of them are part of this team. I will be forever grateful.
