Alzheimer's Society - Inca trail challenge · 8 May 2010 ·

At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.

Story

Dear Friends,

Some of you know that my mum developed dementia at the young age of 60 just as she retired. Instead of enjoying her retirement she was struck down by this cruel and mentally debilitating illness. As a family we found this increasingly hard to cope with and eventually mum went into a care home to enable her to be professionally cared for. My mum passed after after 13 years of this illness. It is a terrible thing to see a loved one deteriorate with dementia over such a long period of time.

The Alzheimer's Society was just being formed when my mum developed her dementia but is now a valuable source of information, advice and support to so many people. I have therefore decided to support the society by raising £3,200 for their cause. I have booked myself on a trek to Peru in May 2010 which will be a huge challenge. I feel the time is right to take on this challenge (foolhardy or not, I'm not sure). I have started a training schedule that I must continue until the trip (to enable me to survive).

If you feel you are able to sponsor me on my challenge to achieve my goal of raising as much money as possible for this very worthwhile cause, I would be very grateful.

Thank you so much.
