We fund medical equipment and services to give our children the best possible care

Story

Hi - I hope you are very well.

I am after your support.

Believe it or not on May 9th I am running in Glasgow's 10k to raise money for Yorkhill Childrens Foundation focusing on the Plaster Room. Below is the reason why.......

Hannah is my amazing niece. She was diagnosed with osteofibrous dysplasia of the left tibia when she was 10 months old after we found a swelling on her left leg.  She is now almost five years old.  Osteofibrous dysplasia is an extremely rare bone abnormality where the bone develops tumour-like growths where normal bone is replaced by fibrous tissue.  As a result of this condition, Hannah's leg fractured and bowed to the point that she has now had three major surgeries, the most important being the removal of most of her tibia and being replaced by her fibula.

Throughout the last few years, Hannah has had a number of braces, plaster casts and for the last 14 months, an Ilizarov frame to help support the bone after surgery.  Every week we visit the Plaster Room at Yorkhill Sick Kids Hospital who either change her casts or clean her pins on the frame.  When you think of a plaster room you just think of kids who have fallen out of trees and need their arm plastered.  In reality, they deal with all different types of illnesses ranging from bone cancer patients, children with growth disorders and congenital hip disorders amongst many others.  The Plaster Room provide specialised equipment, care and support to children who are in long term plaster or frame care.  They try and make the childrens' regular visits to the plaster room as fun as possible whilst distracting them from the reality of their conditions.  The service they provide help improve the lives of children with many differing conditions and any help would be much appreciated.
